About
What this place is.
I'm Darcy Thomas. This is a personal catalog — writing and music in one place, organized like a music library because some of it actually is. Albums are collections of posts; a post can be an essay, a lab piece, a piece of fiction, a note, a music track, or a field recording. Many essays come with a narration: my own voice reading the piece aloud, available from the same page.
Browse by genre in the sidebar — life, faith, music, games, fiction, software. Each genre has albums; each album has posts. The shape borrows from streaming apps; the substance doesn't.
Most of what's here circles a few recurring questions: how complex systems — software and otherwise — behave when you push them; how beliefs hold up when you act on them; what attention to another person actually requires; what a good life feels like with the people closest in. The music threads the same questions through a different medium.
Built with Astro, MDX, and a small set of React islands. The source is intentionally simple so I can keep extending it as the work demands.
If something here is useful, I'm glad. The feed is the easiest way to keep up.
